Want to expand your desktop? You
can use the Apple DVI to ADC adapter to connect your PowerBook G4 — and
that includes the 12-inch model — to one of Apple’s gorgeous flat-panel
displays in seconds.
All of the new PowerBook G4 models support five different ways to
connect to video: DVI, ADC, VGA, S-video and composite. In addition,
all PowerBooks support dual display mode, so you can extend your work
area, and video mirroring so you can display your projects and share
your ideas through an external display or projector. You can also
display your multimedia projects on a big-screen TV, thanks to S-video
and composite output capability. If you like a streamlined look on your
desk, connect a second display to your PowerBook, pair a mouse and
keyboard and run the PowerBook in closed-lid mode.
The PowerBook G4’s unparalleled graphics performance results from a
combination of factors, chief among them powerful graphics processors,
Mac OS X, OpenGL, stunning displays, and — not least — the way they all
combine to create eye-popping effects in millions of colors.
Sizzling graphics processors
Whichever PowerBook G4 you choose, you can be sure it comes with a
turbocharged graphics processor. The 12-inch PowerBook ships with the
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 with 32MB of DDR SDRAM to kick your 2D and 3D
performance into overdrive. And the new 17-inch and 15-inch PowerBook
G4 models feature leading graphics performance with the ATI Mobility
Radeon 9600 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR SDRAM. Providing
lighting and shading effects, the Mobility Radeon 9600 dramatically
enhances all aspects of your visual experience in every application.
The ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 features a number of cutting-edge graphics
technologies, including programmable pixel and vertex shading for
lighting, making content come alive.
Bond with
your PowerBook G4
Mac users have helped change the world. Now you can help save it. The
PowerBook G4 is just the kind of advanced device bristling with
übertechnology that James Bond’s tweedy gadgetmeister, Q, might
recommend for taking out the bad guys. You’ll see what we mean when you play the debonair secret agent in his most hair-raising thriller yet in James Bond 007: NightFire. You’ll infiltrate the enemy base in the snow-capped Austrian Alps, in outer space and underwater. Your mission: to defeat a criminal mastermind bent on world domination. You’ll appreciate the
PowerBook’s eye-popping 3D graphics when you use such gadgets as the
Laser watch, Q-specs for infrared, night and x-ray visibility, and the
Phoenix suitcase turret gun.
Take this simple test
There’s a quick way to assess a computer’s graphics capability, and
that’s by taking it out for a spin on a graphics-intensive 3D game.
That’s because 3D games demand fast frame rates, and — since each frame
of gaming action must be redrawn as quickly as possible — games
routinely push the graphics processor to its limits. The frame rate (or
how quickly each individual frame of game play is redrawn) is
critically important since a faster frame rate creates a smoother,
movie-like effect.
Quake performance
3D games push the graphics processing unit harder than any other
application. And of these 3D games, Quake performance has come to be
the benchmark against which all graphics processors are measured. So
you’ll be pleased to hear that when playing Quake III Arena version
1.32, in millions of colors, at 1024x768 resolution, the 1.33GHz
17-inch PowerBook G4 blazes away at over 100 frames per second.*
* Higher frame rates indicate better
performance. Tests conducted by Apple.

OpenGL moves faster
The PowerBook G4’s graphics processors take full advantage of OpenGL,
an advanced 3D technology — which runs even faster under Mac OS X
v.10.2 (Jaguar).
DVD video
playback
The PowerBook G4’s graphics processors ensure your DVD movie is played
back at full-frame-rate performance and with stunning digital quality.
That’s a good thing, because with the incredibly sharp displays at your
disposal, you’ll be taking your own private screening room with you.
Put your work on display
Want to present your ideas on a bigger screen? Use the built-in DVI port on the 17-inch and 15-inch PowerBooks and the mini-DVI port on the 12-inch PowerBook to connect to the 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display, the 20-inch Apple Cinema Display or the 17-inch Apple Studio Display. The Apple DVI to ADC Adapter offers more than just a physical connection between a DVI port and a digital ADC monitor. It’s been designed to maintain the digital integrity of the video signal to give you the ultimate pure digital experience.
It’s automatic.
The system automatically displays to the external monitor when you
connect it to the PowerBook. Alternatively, you can toggle between dual
display and video mirroring modes through one touch of the F7 key. And
here’s the best part: The hardware mirroring included in the PowerBook
G4 lets you display video content such as QuickTime movies on an
external monitor with performance equal to that of the built-in display.

All three PowerBook G4 models feature S-video output for connecting to
an analog TV — perfect for those times when you’re in the mood to watch
DVD movies instead of making them.
