The 12.1-inch iBook gives you a 800MHz PowerPC G4 processor, a 133MHz system bus and 256MB of DDR SDRAM. The 14.1-inch iBook packs a powerful punch with either a 933Mhz or 1GHz PowerPC G4 processor and 256K on-chip level 2 cache running at full processor speed, a 133MHz system bus and 256MB of DDR SDRAM. All models support expansion up to 640MB of RAM, and come with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics processor with 32MB of dedicated video memory and AGP 4X support for dazzling 3D graphics that bring your games to life.

All retail iBook models come with a Combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) that lets you play DVD movies and burn your own CDs (the Combo drive reads all the same formats as a CD-ROM drive, including audio CDs, Photo CDs and software CDs).

The iBook is surprisingly roomy on the inside, with ample hard disk space for your music library, digital images and desktop movies: The 14.1-inch 933MHz iBook model comes with a 40GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, the 14.1-inch 1GHz iBook model comes with a 60GB hard drive, the 12.1-inch iBook ships with a 30GB hard drive, and you can upgrade to a 40 or 60GB hard drive through the online Apple Store.

Mac OS X v10.3 (Panther)
The iBook comes with Mac OS X v10.3 Panther, Apple’s easy-to-use, next-generation operating system. Mac OS X Panther gives you over 150 new features, including Exposé (for making the most of the real estate on your screen), Fast User Switching (perfect for families who share one computer system), and FileVault (ironclad security for all the files on your hard disk). Naturally, you also get the Internet to go, with automatic networking to make connecting a snap: Mac OS X senses whether you’re connecting from home, school or the office — and configures your system automatically. And with Mac OS X’s Instant On feature, your iBook wakes from sleep instantly when you open it.

Built-in FireWire
Every iBook has a superfast FireWire 400 port built-in, so you can easily connect to high-speed devices like the iPod, digital camcorders and high-speed disk drives.

Two USB 2.0 ports let you connect your iBook to hundreds of digital cameras, printers, scanners, joysticks and PDAs.

Space-age construction
The deceptively smooth and well-rounded iBook is surprisingly rugged. It was designed with durability in mind, using ultratough polycarbonate plastic — the same material used in bulletproof glass — with an internal magnesium frame for added strength. The hard disk drive is rubber-mounted for impact resistance. And there are no doors or protruding elements that can accidentally get triggered, break off or snag on clothing.
